Analysts, former military personnel, intellectuals, and members of the Hispanic community met at the headquarters of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance
Before a large audience, “The Last Frontier: Chronicle of the US Resistance Against Communist China” was presented on the evening of June 5 in Miami, at the headquarters of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, where analysts, former military personnel, intellectuals, and members of the Hispanic community gathered.
The event opened with remarks by Dr. Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, director of the Assembly, who offered a prayer for the Cuban students who “face the forces of darkness” of the regime to demand their rights following the recent internet restrictions on the island. “These young people will achieve victory,” he affirmed.
Regarding the book, Gutiérrez-Boronat emphasized the importance of focusing on communist China, a regime that “has been occupying key strategic positions.” As he argued, books like this burst the illusion many have lived under—the illusion, as Senator Marco Rubio puts it, that communist China wanted to be like us. No, they want to replace us and become the world’s hegemonic power.
“The only way to break that complacency is by telling the truth,” he said. Therefore, he added: “This book is a courageous act; it is a declaration by a free citizen who refuses to become a slave to totalitarian power.”
For his part, diplomat and former political prisoner Luis Zúñiga stated that “communism aims for global hegemony, imposing its system on the entire world, and that is what China seeks.” Zúñiga, who has read the book and is thoroughly familiar with the research, warned about Chinese technology theft, espionage, and interests in the US and Latin America.
Dr. Marrero, founder of the Miami Strategic Intelligence Institute (MSI²), thanked several figures for their presence, starting with his wife Lina Marrero, head of Bravo Zulu Publishers, as well as retired naval intelligence officer José Adán Gutiérrez, former intelligence lieutenant colonel Octavio Pérez, journalist Marian de la Fuente, special operations veteran PK Kelley, and Luis Zúñiga.
The author outlined the various facets of China’s strategy in the West, how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “erodes democracy in Latin America,” and how, since the 1970s, the Asian country has woven a complex web of dependency in the United States, undermining several key sectors.
Likewise, supported by a presentation featuring revealing graphics and data, the geopolitical expert cited cases of espionage practices, technology theft, cyberattacks, and Chinese influence in allied Latin American entities and governments such as Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela.
The Last Frontier exposes how the Chinese communist regime has strategically penetrated the United States’ economic, technological, and security structures. Marrero, trained at Stanford and Cornell, compiles years of research on Beijing’s silent but lethal advance in this volume.
Completed shortly before Donald J. Trump’s November 5 election victory, the book outlines a strategy that aligns closely with the former president’s policies, especially regarding trade decoupling and the imposition of tariffs.
The audience, many of whom stood due to the large crowd, thanked Dr. Marrero for his strategic reflections and the friendly atmosphere created during his talk on the book, which several described as a master class on communist China’s penetration into the United States.
At the closing session, Venezuelan writer and lawyer Emmanuel Rincón spoke, emphasizing China’s ties with the regimes of Venezuela and Cuba.
More about the book
Far from an academic treatise, The Last Frontier is a call to action. Marrero speaks directly to businesspeople, citizens, and leaders about reducing dependence on Chinese products and strengthening domestic production. According to the author, this is a battle for sovereignty, democratic values, and Western leadership.
The book has been widely endorsed by military and intelligence experts, particularly former Naval Intelligence Commander Jesús Romero, co-founder of the Miami Strategic Intelligence Institute think tank. With insightful comments, former CIA officer Enrique “Ric” Prado, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, and military analyst Octavio Pérez agree that it is essential reading to understand the true scope of the Chinese threat.
The event was sponsored by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, the Miami Strategic Intelligence Institute (MSI²), and Bravo Zulu Publishers. It featured a complimentary toast from Wine41 in an atmosphere where concern for the future of freedom mingled with a renewed sense of civic duty and resolve.
