MIAMI, September 14, 2015 (By Negocios Magazine). Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), Miami’s flagship modern and contemporary art museum, has appointed seven new members to its board of trustees. Read in this article who they are!
The new trustees are: Alexa Wolman, Alexander Hurst, Deryl McKissack, María Bechily, Mary Wolfson, Patrick J. Peyton and Sandra Tamer.
Alexa Wolman is general counsel for For Eyes Optical in Miami. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and her J.D. from the University of California Law School in Los Angeles. She has served in various capacities in several philanthropies including as a member of the Juilliard Counsel, an underwriter for the Guggenheim Works & Process, and a board member of Youth American Grand Prix, Armitage Gone! Dance, and Leave Out Violence.
Alex Hurst is the founder and managing partner of Palatine Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm with offices in New York and Miami. Palatine seeks to make direct real estate investments in multiple asset classes in the United States. Hurst graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude, with a B.A. in political science, in 2001.
Deryl McKissack is chairwoman and chief executive officer of McKissack & McKissack, a national architectural, engineering and construction firm. Through her leadership and vision, the firm has grown tremendously with major offices in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Baltimore, Miami and Los Angeles. The firm’s successful track record includes, amongst others, the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and the renovation of the main U.S. treasury building. McKissack serves on the board of directors of the National Building Museum, the Living Classrooms Foundation and the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. She holds a B.A. of Science in Civil Engineering from Howard University and in 2007 was the recipient of the Adelphi Commencement honorary degree, Doctor of Public Service, from the University of Maryland University College.
María C. Bechily created one of the first public relations and marketing agencies to identify and reach Hispanic consumers in Chicago. She also appeared in front of the camera hosting Spanish language television shows, which received EMMY nominations. Bechily also has significant government and public policy experience she gained when working for a former U.S. senator from Illinois. Additionally, Bechily served on the Commission on Chicago Landmarks, the Chicago Tourism Council and the Metropolitan Pierna Exposition Authority by mayoral appointment, and, by presidential appointment, she served on the National Advisory Council on Women’s Educational Programs and the White House Advisory Committee on Personnel. Presently, Bechily is a life trustee of the Northwestern Memorial Foundation and of the Goodman Theatre, where she is a founding chair of the board’s education committee. Bechily holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s degree in public policy studies from the Harris School of Public Policy of the University of Chicago.
Mary Wolfson was principal, executive vice president of cosmetic bag and infant bedding manufacturer Trina, Inc. for 20 years and president of the Christian Dior division. Since 1985, Wolfson has been active in The Committee of 200, an organization of preeminent businesswomen. She is currently a trustee at the Huntington Theatre Company of Boston, the Grow Clinic at Boston Medical Clinic and The Piper Group, as well as a board member at WebTuner. Wolfson holds a bachelor’s degree in applied aesthetics from Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in New Orleans and a master’s degree in art history from Boston University.
Patrick J. Peyton is a business and nonprofit leader with 30 years of accomplishment. He is the former CEO of Despatch Industries, Minneapolis, Minnesota, a 100-year-old firm that he transformed into a global clean technology company before selling it in 2011. He currently serves as CEO of The Peyton Group, LLC, a private equity holding company, Camden Management, Inc. an investment advisory firm and is chairman of the Peyton Family Foundation. Peyton has led several private operating companies as head of Christianson Investment Company, Superior Product Manufacturing Company and was formally CFO of the Gordon P. Getty Family & Trust (San Francisco and Washington). He is a former CPA with Arthur Andersen. Peyton serves on several for profit and nonprofit boards including Lone Rock Timber Management, Northern Tool and Equipment Company, The Waters Senior Living Group, The National Alzheimer Association and The Walker Art Center. He is a graduate of Regis University, Denver.
Sandra Tamer started her career as an engineer and is an active philanthropist. She currently serves on the board of directors of Action Against Hunger, a recognized global leader that focuses on the fight against malnutrition in children and in the restoration of food security and self-sufficiency in at-risk communities. Tamer also serves on The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise advisory board at Columbia University and on the board of the René Moawad Foundation, which offers training and education to young adults and promotes social economic programs for those living in poverty. She also currently serves on the director’s council of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York and is a member of the museum’s contemporary arts committee. Tamer holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.
Silvia Rios Fortun serves as the president of the Guardian Angels since it was established in 1998 and as chairman of the Jackson Health Foundation Board of Directors. The Guardian Angels raise money to enhance and expand pediatric specialty programs, and create a comforting, modern environment for children and their families. The Jackson Health Foundation assists Holtz Children’s Hospital, located at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, in providing the very best medical care to children in our community.
